Cascadia Loop Duplex Fire

On Thursday, 7/20 at 15:55, fire crews responded to a report of dark blue smoke coming from the north part of Sunland.

First arriving crews reported heavy smoke coming from the roof of a single story duplex. Crews initiated an interior attack but were driven out when the roof collapsed on one side of the duplex. Crews entered the other side and pulled ceiling to protect the firewall that separates the two living spaces. Mutual-aid was requested from Fire District 2 and from Port Angeles Fire Department. Red Cross was also summoned to care for the occupants of both residence and PUD was called upon to disconnect the electrical service of both residences. This proved to be a stubborn fire because it spread under the raised floor. Firefighters had to cut the floor and crawl underneath the structure to fully extinguish the fire. The residence of lost 2 beloved dogs and a cat. The owner of the home was not home at the time of the fire and arrived while crews were fighting the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
